Skate on the on-premises ice rink

Former world champions in figure skating have demonstrated their skills on the on-site Suvretta House ice rink. Try it out: don your skates and draw elegant lines in the mirror-smooth ice to lively musical rhythms. Whether you are taking your first steps on the ice or wish to perfect your technique, an experienced coach is at hand to circumspectly ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Curling in a superb setting

This sport, originally from Scotland and now an Olympic discipline, is a long-standing tradition at Suvretta House. We are the only hotel worldwide with a Curling Guest Club. It was founded in 1912, and two years later admitted as an affiliate of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club. Today, the umbrella association is named World Curling Association; its patron is H.M. the Queen of England.

Open-air curling is a truly royal pleasure on our private natural ice curling field, 1856 metres above sea level, with breathtaking views of the Upper Engadine mountains. Tournaments and cup competitions are held there every year, but the most important aspect is the fun of the game. Beginners are always welcome to join in, so don’t hesitate to get on the ice. Starting out is child’s play on special curling sheets for hotel guests or lessons with a qualified trainer.

Snowshoeing – pure deceleration

It’s a very special and unique experience to trek through pristine forests and across snow-clad plains with snowshoes on one’s feet. Snowshoeing is an ideal pastime for everyone seeking tranquillity and relaxation far off the beaten track. The Suvretta Snowsports School would be delighted to map out a personal tour for you and provide the matching gear.

Cross-country skiing – in tune with nature

Gliding across a snow-clad winter landscape, away from it all, finding your own cadence and letting it move you forward is an intimate encounter with nature: Cross-country skiing in not only a sport, it is also a dynamic form of meditation.

In the Upper Engadine, 180 km of expertly groomed courses for skaters or classic skiers guide you along the valley floor or coax you to find wildly romantic dales. You can still add a loop or so when the sun goes down behind the mountains and makes way for the stars – on illuminated night courses. And if you are seeking the ultimate challenge, register for the Engadine Ski Marathon.
