On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the death of the artist Augusto Giacometti (1877-1947), Suvretta House remembers the representative of the artist family from the Bregaglia, who occupied a special position in various aspects.
For family reasons, he had to leave his home valley at an early age and became a city dweller in Zurich. Like his cousin Giovanni and his great-nephew Alberto, he was an outstanding painter and innovator of stained glass.
Together with Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), he is considered as a pioneer of abstract art. The newly published book makes it possible for the first time to follow the development of Augusto Giacometti’s work and offers insight into his thinking.
The book is based on years of research into more than 900 of the artist’s writings from the 1930s, many of them previously unpublished.
Chasper Pult will present the book in conversation with Marco Giacometti.
